A Letter to High School Me.

High School:

A time in ones life where everything is awkward and no one knows exactly where they fit in or what they are doing.

As I sit on my bed tonight scrolling through the pictures on my old high school flash drive (yes, I have a flash drive that is dedicated to the last two years of high school), I am literally screaming at the girl in the pictures who was beautiful but thought she was overweight, ugly, and awkward. The girl who wanted friends that loved who she was, but tried so hard to impress the people that were nice to her face and made fun of her behind her back. The same friends who made her feel like she was annoying and weird. I also want to hug her because she was so innocent and naïve. She was the girl that believed everyone was good and even if they weren't they had a good soul inside dying to come out. The girl who couldn't wait for chicken nugget days in the cafeteria and wanted to dye her hair red to be like Cat Valentine from "Victorious".

After four years of being free from high school, this is my letter to high school me:

Young Killa, (A nickname given to me in high school by a close friend)

Hi, what's up? This is your future self speaking. If you don't believe me then I'll prove it to you. In that blue felt bag you keep in your room, is a picture of a guy you were crushing on. Your close friend took the picture from the school bulletin board and "surprised" you with it by placing it on your desk before 1st period. Now do you believe me? If you believe me then keep reading, if not then you can still keep reading.
So, I bet you think I'm here to drop some wisdom and knowledge about the real world right? lol jokes on you because 4 years later and all I can tell you is

" The real world sucks, You're gonna
love it" - Monica Geller - K

However, I do have a few things to say to you. Let's begin by saying STOP thinking that you are ugly, awkward, and overweight. Stop it right this second. Because it's not true. You are beautiful and shouldn't believe anything less. Stop walking down the hallways with your head held down in hopes that no one will notice you and start walking down those hallways with your head held high in hopes that they WILL notice you. Start gaining some confidence in yourself. Trust me, you wont regret it.

With that being said, stop letting other people bring you down. Stop trying to impress the people that think you are annoying and "overly positive". Not everyone you think is a friend is actually your friend so be careful who you trust. You have true friends, focus on them and don't let negative people steal your positivity. *Spoiler Alert* you find your person on your first day of college classes. Also, as you grow older, you start to realize it isn't about the quantity of friends its about the quality.

Next, make memories! Memories are precious and don't be afraid to make them. Go to that football game you are questioning going to. That lame homecoming dance no one wants to be seen at.. do it. That club you want to join but you are to afraid to join GO FOR IT. Take chances, make those memories, and take all the pictures you can.

Make good choices. Don't smoke, do drugs, take candy from strangers, you know that whole speech that you hear over and over again from every grown up that passes you by. Also, don't ever choose a boy over your friends. Friends are forever, boys are...... boys. (PS. don't ask me for any more advice on boys, because even as a 22 year old I still haven't figured them out)

Lastly, I don't really have to tell you this, but it is always a good reminder. Love others. Be kind. Compassion is such as powerful tool and if the world had more of it then it would be a brighter place.

There is so much more I would love to tell you, but sadly I have to let you find the rest of it out for yourself. Stop worrying about the future, and your grades. Enjoy being young.

Good Luck,
Love,
Future K.
P.s: When you graduate could you please hold your diploma right side up?

Alright, there you have it. A letter of what I would like to tell the younger high school version of me. High school should be the best days of our lives, but with social media and the harsh judgements of our fellow class mates, high school can be  unbearable for some kids. So as a side note to all, no matter what age, grade, size, shape, color, profession, etc, you may be please love everyone. Spread compassion.

Also as a side note: I am in no way or form saying that my high school years were horrible, nor am I trying to gain attention by saying I had negative experiences with people. I am grateful to have lived the life I did during those times. Again, I think it is important to show compassion to all! I hold no grudges towards anyone I had negative experiences with in high school and wish them the best in life.
As always,
Thanks for reading
Until Next Time
-Present day K
